Time to Start Training

Running in the dark has a very different feel than during the day time.  I don't often have the motivation to run at night but with a 5-mile run on the horizon and my lack of running since the half-marathon earlier this month, I thought I should at least throw a bone at it.  I'm glad I did.  It is definitely easier for me to get up and out later in the day than at first light. I probably need to re-think my training and not push myself to run at times that are nearly impossible (5:30am) and then be disappointed when I don't.

This Thursday I will be joining my niece and her husband in my first Turkey Trot in Oceanside as a prelude to our family Thanksgiving celebration. I hope I don't make them wait too long at the finish line! When I signed up for it I thought it wouldn't be any big deal since I will have run 13.1 miles just a couple of weeks before, but as the time as come quickly and I took not just one but practically two weeks off, I am slightly regretting not getting back into it sooner.

I'm trying to think of this run coming up as just part of my training for the Tinkerbell half in January.  It's hard though to not get excited and a bit nervous when running in a timed event and on a course in which I have no idea where I'll be and where it's going. I just hope that there's a view of the ocean somewhere along the way.
